A Look at 2 AM Broadcast Band Filters

These pics were done running Airspy SDR# Studio v1.0.0.1910 – the sdr is an Airspy HF+ Discovery – the settings : HF AGC / off – HF preamp on – HF att 0db – the pics were taken as fast as I could put the filter (s) in line and switch them – so the conditions are basically the same for all – Frequency is set 1.110.000 – 1110 KFAB – 50 kw flamethrower – 60 ft long wire . . .

no filter . . .

RTL-SDR 2.6 Mhz HPF “Broadcast AM Reject Filter” . . .

NooElec “Flamingo” AM Broadcast Band Notch Filter . . .

They both work to quiet down the AM broadcast band – to explain the differences I am going to link to 2 sites to get you some idea of what is happening – #1HERE and #2HERE – it’s difficult to explain something when you don’t understand all you don’t know about it – LOL!

Once I get the new room set up I will do some thorough testing of both – as well as testing of the variety of settings on the software – Airspy SDR# Studio v1.0.0.1910 – as you can see there are a whole bunch of settings . . .

I will keep fiddling with this and try to get a clue as to what I’m doing – I’m probably 75 days out from getting the new room/studio set up – yes it looks like the studio may become a reality – I’m being drug – kicking and screaming – into the 21st century – so real pictures are coming and a YouTube channel may be up and running by the first of the year . . .

I’m not holding my breath on the YouTube thing and I don’t recommend that any of you folks do either . . .

Have Fun! – Run the Gun! – and remember – Fish Heads are Cheap!!
