Probably the simplest solution – but NOT A CHEAP DATE! – is from DXEngineering – almost plug in solutions for you – 2 different models from them – the Noise Canceling Signal Enhancers MFJ-1025 @ $269.95 and the Noise Canceling Signal Enhancers MFJ-1026 @ $299.95 – the $30 dollar difference being an antenna on the unit itself – which helps you detect/cancel noise from your in-house environment. And believe you me – there is a tremendous amount of noise coming from in your house – LED light bulbs are very noisy – fan motors – such as the blower motor on your furnace or your a/c unit outside – or window unit – computers/monitors – TV’s – Everything that consumes electricity makes an electrical “splash” of some sort or the other.
One of the favorite things to do was night fishing – before the “crew” got all caught up in life – Yeah, I know – life ain’t bad, but this day to day shit will kill you – was to drag out the GE Super Radio with a set of fresh batteries in it while fishing and listen to the oldies show on AM radio out of Toronto, Canada just as clear as it it was a local station – on from 9pm to midnight – and no I don’t remember the call letters – but I remember damn near every catfish! . . .
One of the primary reasons it was so good – besides the radio? – you are out ( electrically speaking ) in the middle of nowhere – no interference! I worked some incredible AM broadcast band DX over the years while camping – and the vast majority of it was done with transistor pocket radios – nothing special or fancy . . .
