A Look at Cold Steel Commercial Series Kitchen Knives

I have a set of Zwilling / J. A. Henckels – this set – BUT – the 7″ Santoku is no longer included with the set – to give you an idea how long I have had the set – I picked it up on sale for less than $200 – it was that long ago . . .

One of the issues ( not really – more an irritant ) is they eventually dull down to the point where a pass or two through the Warthog sharpener just won’t do “it” – then it becomes a sharpening day – I mean the Zwilling’s are incredibly tough / hold an edge / not brittle – but damn when it gets down to time to sharpen – it’s time to sharpen . . .

So the other day I was looking for some knives for presents and I bought The Bruce Actual two Cold Steel Kitchen KnivesReally Folks – Doesn’t my Blushing Bride’s husband deserve nice stuff? – the 8″ Plain Blade Commercial Butcher Knife . . .

. . . as well as the Kitchen Classics 3″ Paring Knife . . .

German 4116 steel – good stuff – does a decent job of holding an edge and a breeze to sharpen and dress up with a rod – I mean I really love my Zwilling but the Cold Steel knives are thinner and much more “nimble” to cut with – I have been using the 8″ as an “everything” knife and it’s nimble enough to use as a paring knife!

The 3″ paring knife? Feels every bit as good as the Opinel paring knives – and Opinel makes a great paring knife!

Are single purpose kitchen knives worth it? – It all depends on what floats your boat – Is meal prep a chore – or a part of the the prep / cook / eat pleasure thing for you?? With the right cutting techniques and proper tools it ( meal prep ) CAN be a pleasure and not a chore!

Have Fun! – Run the Gun! – and remember – Fish Heads are Cheap!!
