The Journey of Troop 72 from Butch Johnson

Butch took on the task of documenting his troop – and he didn’t realize at the start how deep the hole was going to go. Several runs at it later – he decided to go with what he could get his hands on from local newspaper microfiche – several thousands of hours later he got this put together.

With a core group of helpers as seen below – plus many others – he finally got it done.

Now this is a straight forward history as seen through the eyes of the newspaper articles.

These five pages below are literally just open it up at random and take a picture – and this is pretty cool stuff – at least for a niche group of folks out here . . .

Butch is still thinking about a collection of “stories” from the troop – road trips – camping – OA – and other activities they all had fun with over the years – I don’t think he is a big enough glutton for punishment to take that project on.

The book is for sale – not a cheap date by any stretch – but – when you factor in the amount of time by the number of people involved – it’s not bad @ 65 bucks plus shipping.

And this is truly a narrow market item – people say “Wow – that’s cool – I want one” or they are not interested in the least. There are not a lot of fence sitters on this.

If you are interested – you can contact Butch through {{ GerdJohnson58@gmail.com }} – drop him a note and he will get you set up with your very own copy.

I’m waiting for the Fort Dodge Council history book he’s putting together – hopefully Butch will be able to retain some shred of sanity by the time he’s through with that mess – tracking Fort Dodge council into Prairie Gold council into Mid America council – the hundreds of documents and pictures that have yet to be found and sorted through. What do you leave out vs what do you include?? Should be way cool when it’s finally done. And you’ll see it here when it’s done.

When you email Butch – say hey to him for me – were both getting to old to do any camping anymore – now it’s phone calls and text messages . . .

Have Fun! – Run the Gun! – and remember – Fish Heads are Cheap!!
