Eton Elite 750

I had quite a time finding a good straight forward review on “The Tube” – the guy gives you a good look at the radio – no smoke and mirrors and bullshit – just a decent look at it – after picking one up – the only question I’m asking me is why did I wait so long? . . .

More “stuff” on the way for YOU!

A couple of Cold Steel fixed blades to give you a look at – and something different . . .

And YOUR homework assignment in the meantime? What is SK-5 Steel? – this will get you started – A quick reference is to think of it as in the neighborhood of the steel KA-BAR uses in the combat knives – same church different pew . . .

For the next thing – the look at it will take awhile as I want to get it above the roof line so it’s not at a disadvantage to start with -the MLA-30 receiving antenna – for a pretty good review you can go here . . .

Right at this moment the MLA-30 is stuck out the window on a 10 foot pole and it’s more or less “blind” to the west ( metal siding ) so it’s not a fair comparison to the long wire antenna – the Eton makes it easy to switch between the two antennas as the loop is connected to a BNC connector for external antennas and with a click of a switch it is receiving through the internal whip antenna – just clipped the long wire to the whip – simple and easy . . .

Hopefully have a dribble of “stuff” this week – then the over time is “supposed” to end for 30 days . . . Yeah I know – when pigs fly . . .

Knife blade patterns YOU just don’t see every day . . .

Knife blades are a real form follows function kind of thing – over 100’s of years of usage people have developed some very specific blade patterns to do different tasks more efficiently – something may look strange – but it’s strange for a reason . . .

Enjoy!

Cold Steel “Large” Luzon

I like Big Knives I Cannot Lie! – with apologies to Sir Mix-a-Lot . . . LMAO!

Every time I look at something on AMAZONIA in the “suggested” products there are always at least several knives – tell me they don’t have the algorithm thingy figured out – at least for me . . . At $40 bucks I couldn’t pass it up . . .

One Good Looking Knife . . .

That 8Cr13MoV stainless steel clip point blade with a satin finish is pretty – and pretty much flawless – the steel does not have the best edge retention but the trade-off is it’s easy to sharpen – think 440A . . .

A little bit of a departure from most of Cold Steel’s large knives – the Luzon has a lanyard hole – And FRN scales – keeps cost AND weight down . . .

The scales are supposed to emulate the look and feel of bamboo – I wouldn’t know about that as I have never had a knife with bamboo scales – LOL – The FRN scales give you good traction and no hot spots so it’s good with me . . .

Another departure from the “norm” is the pocket clip – it’s FRN not steel and the knife comes with a sliding lock that locks the frame lock into position when open – although as stout as the frame lock is you really won’t need it – but some folks just are not comfortable with frame locks . . .

A couple of close ups of the pocket clip – really low profile – no hot spot issue when using the knife . . .

Wide enough that it grips well so the knife doesn’t move around . . .

Blade centering is spot on . . .

And for what it’s worth – it is made in China – not Taiwan . . . .

Weight wise you are paying for the large blade – the box lists it at 9.3 oz . . .

And of course a glamor shot for you two – and we all know who you are . . .

Let’s round this thing up – shall we? – If a LARGE knife that’s inexpensive – easy to sharpen – and if deep enough ( need about a 7 inch pocket ) rides good in your pocket – easy to deploy, you can drag it across the back corner of your pocket and it opens as you clear the pocket with it ( wave style opening ) or it “flips” open nicely – AND is just way up on the WOW scale – this fits good and doesn’t crunch the budget – it’s only $40 bucks . . .

The only downside(s) to the large LUZON :

The pocket clip is NOT reversible – 8Cr13MoV is not the latest greatest super steel but it’s easy to keep sharp – and as with the other LARGE Cold Steel knives – DO NOT use this to cut up a piece of fruit at the lunch table at work – it will NOT end well . . .

The only question I have – Why haven’t you ordered one – or two ( and YOU know who I’m talking about ) yet?? Come on – what else are you going to do with $40 bucks?? – Buy enough gas to fill the lawnmower? – Buy a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter??

“The Doors” – The Doors ( 1967 )

Overtime again this week and next – I understand how two 70K + slots are open this long 1) These kids are lazy 2) It takes takes a year of hands on training to qualify to take the test administered by the city to be allowed to operate steam plants . . . If I can’t have it NOW I don’t want IT!! I might get dirty and sweaty – Heaven Forbid!!
