Range Day with Something a Little Different

Well it’s bath time again – which means a range trip happened – Yay!

left to right – RIA 1911 / S&W M&P 45acp Compact / S&W 40caliber Shield / Beretta 80X

Oh you dirty little thing . . .

4 mags out of the new Rock Island after the grip replacement – the first 3 mags – Point/Shoot – the last mag I actually let the sights drift into the target picture – the ones in the small center diamond and the 3 drifting down and right . . . I would say the grips and the bit of white paint on the front sights seems to work good . . .

Finally got the S&W M&P out to play – the compact 45acp that I got 6(?) months ago – it runs good – but the recoil on it is more than a Shield in 45acp – go figure . . .

My Blushing Bride even tried out her rebuilt eye ball with the Beretta 80X – not bad considering this is the first time she been able to see good enough to shoot in about three years . . .

And now for something a little different – S&W 40 caliber Shield – but – with a 357SIG conversion barrel – Muzzle blast? – Oh Hell Yes! – Fireball? You Bet! – Distracting on a lit range – will try to get to an outdoor range at night after it warms up this spring and get you folks some video – it should be quite a sight!

Picked the barrel up from TR Enabling awhile back – really don’t shoot it much – 357SIG is NOT a cheap date! Really fun – but not cheap!

Got a really neat range trip coming – taking a safe queen out on a date – only had a box of 50 rounds for it so I really never did a “real” range trip with it – a few rounds here and there – but – I found some in stock and it should be in hand by the weekend. With any room in my schedule ( I thought retirement was supposed to be all this free time and shit! – right? ) I will try for a Tuesday range day – Oh Boy!

All y’all know I shoot a bunch of odd calibers – and they were the first to dry up with the dempanic – some of them were real slow to become available again – but they are dribbling back into the market in big enough quantities they are becoming affordable again – bottom line – you really never know what is going to show up on a range trip!

Range Day : H&R 642

Picked this little gem up at one of the local adoption agencies ( pawn shop ) – just can’t hardly pass up a Harrington & Richard revolver in good shape. The model 642 is a little different – parkerized frame with blued barrel and cylinder – just the one cylinder in 22Magnum . . .

running hither and yon – thought i would have a few minutes to duck into the range – and i did!

First 6 at 7 yards – way up at the top of the target / fired 5 and brought the target back thinking I was missing totally – shot the 6th one aiming about 2/3 of the way down the bottom vertical stripe – Point Of Impact vs Point Of Aim – shoots way high – except for the 6th shot POA was the bottom of the center diamond . . .

Second 6 at 5 yards a little better ( same POA ) . . .

The double action trigger pull is higher than what you really want at 11lbs 13oz – ugh . . .

Single action is believable and not too bad at 3lbs 1oz . . .

22 Magnum out of this is something else – huge fireball / really loud muzzle blast . . . and virtually no recoil!

For a better look with more pics – go to my post <<<HERE>>> on the H&R 642 – just a quick update on a quickie range trip – I definitely need to put in another requisition for a radar chronograph to my CFO for final disapproval in 30 days! – LMAO!
