“TARGET NEVADA” – OPERATION RANGER

At the beginning of the video reference is made of a large number of “tests” – here’s an aerial pic of Yucca Flats – there are areas of the test site that you cannot exit your vehicle for another 300 years or so – there are some insanely hot “spots” on the site . . .

The 50’s and 60’s – Good Times – if you want something for some “light” reading – “The Effects of Nuclear Weapons” ( will open in a PDF ) is available on line – “if” you are so inclined and really want some interesting reading dive into the phenomena known as “ground slap” – really a neat facet to look into – the main idea is the shock wave from the low altitude air burst and the shock wave through the ground meet and travel through a given point at the same time creating maximum surface AND sub-surface disruption at a given point – determined by device yield and the detonation altitude – realize the air borne shock wave diminishes rapidly – but close in it is significant – unless you just say the hell with it and dig it out in the crater . . .

Friday Music – let’s do 1965

This next one – more than just about any other song from that era – is hard for me to realize it is as old as it is – it’s still “fresh” today every time I hear it . . .

Released in December of 64 – Made it to #74 on the top 100 for 1965 . . .

And as always I could go on and on . . .

Wednesday Randoms – Yes I know it’s Friday . . .

Not saying I am behind – BUT I’m NOT saying I’m not behind . . .

And speaking of behind’s . . .

What do you mean you don’t follow this blog??

There are ways of convincing YOU to follow this blog . . .

I was starting to worry if you were going to make it to the bottom of this post – all y’all don’t worry about me – the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated – LOL!

A Pair of Artisan Cutlery Brass Proponents – and Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Short Stack

I knew they were getting married – but I lost track of the date – it snuck up on me – I ordered the “Lady Leg” and the “Halloween Special” for me and a matched set of these for the bride and groom . . .

I even wrapped them up all nice and pretty – didn’t get them in time for the wedding so they didn’t get to open them there . . .

I popped one out of the box to give you folks a look see – didn’t want to handle it too much as brass will acquire a patina – and they were gifts – let the newlyweds put the patina on them – that just doesn’t sound right – does it?

You even get a nice drawstring bag and a screw in locking pin . . .

Right at 9 inches open – wharncliffe blade / pocket clip / thumb studs – all massive

And tipping the scales at 14.89 oz in the brass – it all feels just right . . .

When you take the lock pin . . .

Screw it through the frame and lock / block the blade open – the only thing that beats the feel of this Proponent is a short sword – and as a reflection on how far the pussification ( thanx George Carlin ) of our society has gone – you really DO NOT want to carry a short sword out in public – DON’T ASK how I know this – ok?

I picked up a Proponent in G10 scales – the only place I found one was Amazon – go figure . . .

Really great job on machining the G10 – same knife – same praises – except . . .

It only weighs 9.2 oz –Bruce – are you nuts or what?? – That’s over a half pound of pocket knife!! – the G10 handled Proponent is just a whole different feel / level – the brass one “sings” to you – Wanna chop up a Ford? You bet! – Wanna chop a cow up? You bet! – Wanna chop a _________ ? ( insert damn near anything! ) You bet!

The G10 proponent is really a nice large folding knife – and I am going to wring it out for you folks in a review – next to the Proponent in bronze – it may be a while as the bronze are on back order – but I have one coming . . .

Mr. & Mrs. Short Stack are going to put a little review together for you folks – it may be a while – you folks know how that newlywed thing is – busy busy . . .

What’s in YOUR pocket??
