Most folks who have read these crazed ramblings of this blog realize that I, as most other folks have goals – one of mine is that if I can’t “melt a snowflake” with some thing I post – my life is lacking something . . . I live for the moment that some delusional individual tells me they are offended – “Let Loose the Dogs of War” – my preprogrammed response – “Do you understand that I don’t give a fuck about the fact that I don’t care about any of your delusions you are trying to project onto me through your cock sucker?” That’s where I start – and it usually escalates quickly after that. So for you new folks – if I haven’t managed to “offend” you yet – realize I am working on it . . .

White Prince / Laguiole Pattern by DKC Knives

Watched a video on YouTube on Laguiole pattern knives – it was in French so I didn’t get a lot out of it – except the knives caught my eye – started looking at them and the prices were nose bleed and up – Damn Frogs are PROUD of their stuff . . .

Ran across DKCKNIVES.COM and went through their site – DKC’s products looked good – and the prices were reasonable – went to their stuff on Amazon to peruse through all their stuff – their newest offerings are on their site – all their available stuff is on Amazon – WOW! – what an assortment – finally decided on the “White Prince” model – $76.00 and 2 days later this little darling came to her new home . . .

Comes in a decent sheath . . .

I admit I was excited – I whipped it out . . .

Most times a lot folks consider me cynical or jaded – I buy “stuff” that I have zero experience with – either the company or their products – and I for the most part have zero expectations. I’ll save all that for when it comes out of the box – Bruce – that’s a terrible way to be! – Not really – Zero Expectations equals Zero Disappointments. From the reviews I read on DKC’s products I freely admit I was expecting something nice – maybe a step or two above that . . .

I admit I am IMPRESSED – I actually had some expectations – I wouldn’t go as far to say high expectations – when I got the knife and handled it – and then fondled it – and then lovingly caressed it – and then – Oh My My! – Excuse me while I go take a shower and a nap . . .

Alrighty then – I’m back . . .

Completely enamored with it – I only have one issue with the whole thing – Which one do I buy next?? – This little “White Prince” knife by DKC is drop dead beautiful – feels good in the hand – Sharp?? – DKC’s Damascus blades are like 220 plus layers of steel and coming out of the box is “Damn – Be CAREFUL with that thing – you’re liable to cut your hootenanny off with it” sharp – RFS – Real Fucking Sharp!!

I am leaning toward <<< THIS ONE >>> only without the pocket clip and with a sheath – a little something nice for daily carry – That’s an understatement if there ever was one.

All you folks who every day carry a knife – or two – or like some of us – three – Looking for something real different looks-wise and the big one – quality-wise and just can’t take a deep enough breath to drop $500 or more on a knife?? Trot your happy ass over to DKC and pick one of their gems up – They have some truly incredible stuff available . . .

Why Should You Carry a Traditional Pocket Knife?

These guys pretty much got trounced in the comments on this video – if you pay attention – they really are not at a high level of comprehension about “traditional” knives and the different patterns and models – I have been around knives ( and firearms ) all my life – and knives – all the different patterns and models are really amazing – I have managed to get just above the level of knowing enough to be dangerous – LOL!

Traditional Pocket Knives Part 2 – Here you get an inkling of “differences” with traditional pocket knives – they were built for a given task a lot of times – or even a singular function within a task – look at a meat packing plant – most people think about it as chop up the cow or piggy ( MMMM – Bacon . . . ) and send them out in a box – for a great number of the cutting operations that are manually done – there are specific patterns and styles of knives for each cut – knives and the technology behind them are in their own way as fascinating as firearms development . . .

If you really want to step through the looking glass – just search for knife forums and start reading . . .

Taylor Brands LLC / Schrade “Old Timer” Land Shark – or Is It?

I had one of these years ago – about 30 years or more actually – the little knife decided to play hide and seek – it was a real good hiding place because I never found it – LOL – life went on and I had forgotten about it completely when I happened on this one in a pawn shop – 6 or 8 bucks later and I was a happy camper . . .

The Schrade Old Timer Land Shark – Stewart Taylor designed this pattern – based on a Japanese knife design . . .

Real easy to use design – the cuts in the frame and scales allow you to “pinch” the blade with your thumb and index finger to open – no need to use the nail nick . . .

Real good feel in the hand – the saw cut composition scales give a good purchase – Bruce – we are looking at two knives here . . .

Just a real good looker from any angle – the brass bolsters add a nice touch . . . Now hold on just a minute Bruce – there are two knives . . .

And a look at the Land Shark stamping on the blade . . .

Bruce – Enough is Enough! – What’s going on with the two knives?? – Don’t give me any line about double vision – Stop already! – Of course there are two knives – both made by Schrade – both current production – both named Land Shark . . .

Schrade has a “classic” Old Timer pattern and Schrade has a “modern” Schrade pattern . . .

The “Old Timer” is here – and the “modern” Land Shark is here – both in stock at this time and available from BLADEHQ – I am going to order an “Old Timer” to have a new one to stash in the knife chest and start carrying the used one . . .

The “modern” Land Shark is a really neat design – it is spring assisted opening – just pull your index finger across the little stud to get the blade off of the closed stop and the spring triggers and out comes the blade – a good positive liner lock – feels good – and looks good – my only ding on the knife is I personally don’t like AUS8 steel – and don’t let that deter you from picking one up – that’s just me – if I have a choice it won’t be AUS8 blade steel – that aside the “modern” Land Shark is a good looker – isn’t it?

They are both cool Bruce – Which one should I buy?? – I can only give you folks the same advice I give people who can’t decide which handgun to buy – buy them both – YOU have MY permission – LMAO!

Taylor Brands LLC – go ahead and click it – it will surprise you to see where you land – how Stewart Taylor got there is quite a story in and of itself – depending on time constraints I may address the history of it in another post – it’s quite an interesting thing . . .
