Actually managed to get to the range to check the factory vs modded mags – got there just before closing – in and out in 15 minutes – not worried about aiming to any degree – wanting to check for the dreaded nose dive issue – ran 4 mags – and I was surprised . . . there was no issues with either the factory mags or the modded mags – all 4 performed flawlessly – the modded mags were a wee bit harder to get the 8th round in – but otherwise I had zero mag issues with any of the mags . . .

That funny looking piece is it . . .
One end pins in the frame . . .
The other end rides in the firing pin channel – where it not only holds the back of the slide in place but maintain the firing pin springs under proper tension . . .
I that cool or what?? – It’s almost like folks got together and had a “challenge build match” to see how few parts and how simple can we build this – and speaking of not seeing “stuff” that isn’t there – looking at the down the mag well pic – What did you not see?? – An ejector – that’s the reason the firing pin is as long as it is . . .
When the slide moves back to the rear the firing pin protrudes and functions as the ejector . . .
That is neat stuff – and just to give you a different look at breakdown and cleaning – here’s Mr Guns and Gear for you . . .
My assumption is Hi Point has done some changes to either the mags – springs – follower – feed ramp geometry – who knows? I know it runs good – now to take some time and zero in the adjustable sights and keep shooting it and see how it works out long term – I admit for the price point ( $220 in hand ) I’m impressed – might have to pick one up in God’s caliber – 45 acp . . .
