Springfield XD-9 / Sub Compact Review

Picked this little pistol up from Doug @ GGGPawn a couple of weeks back and finally got a chance to get a good look at it and even got to the range with it – Ready?

Complete in all its glory – box – cleaning brush – manual – 2 magazines ( including a super deadly High Capacity magazine – LMAO ) – and original lock / still in bag . . .

Springfield started with the XD line around 2002 – this particular pistol is a July 2005 manufacture date – in great shape for 15 years old . . . Springfield has gone through several “versions” of the XD line since its start – actually 5 or 6 I think – CLICK HERE TO GO TO WIKI and have at it or CLICK HERE TO GO TO SPRINGFIELD and check them out – not a bad run for what started out as an “ugly duckling” import – let’s take it apart and have a look see . . . And Yes I am going to remind you to check a firearm to assure that it is empty before handling – cleaning etc – however – if you are that stupid maybe we should let Darwin come into play here . . .

Lock the slide back

Rotate the locking lever up . . .

Release the slide – pull the trigger – if it goes bang you fucked up – take the slide off – comes apart just like almost every other striker fired pistol – and captured recoil springs are a good thing – it never ceases to amaze me just how far a guide rod can go when it gets away from my clutches . . .

And my favorite part – Trigger Time at The Range – Have YOU been to the range this week?? Upper left – upper right – lower left – lower right – center – a quick 25 rounds to function check the pistol and magazines more than anything else – about those two that climbed up and right out of the lower right five – trying to play with the reset when I fired the last three rounds – it is longer than you think – would take a few more rounds to dial it in – but overall a nice little shooter – 3 dot sights / nothing fancy – recoil very manageable / Either YOU manage recoil or recoil manages YOU!!

Nothing fancy – just sending them in the direction of the target – just point – sight / target picture – shoot . . .

Bath Time!! – No Greg – no Asian girls in bubble baths – just saying . . .

Rubber Ducky you’re the one – You make bath time so much fun . . . Yes – I went there

I did a cleaning post about a million years ago – I showed a S&W 642 getting a bath – if y’all want I can do one for a semi-auto . . . same basic steps – just different – revolver vs semi-auto – let me know . . . the only reason I hesitate is the fact that there are SO MANY gun “cleaning” videos out there . . .

All better now . . .

All cleaned up and ready to go – Ready for some random thoughts?? . . .

Smooth shooter – decent capacity with the short mag – grip texture works good / probably won’t add Talon Grips to it – despite appearances the bore axis is not as high as you think / very little muzzle flip – decent trigger break – LOOONG reset – three dot sights that are easy to pick up – been on the market long enough replacement sights / night sights / holsters etc. are all readily available – the grip safety really helps a lot of folks feel “comfortable” with the striker fired system – points good / I am not having to adjust grip or grip angle to “find” the sights – It is an ugly little duckling, isn’t it?

I picked up an XDM in .40 S&W from Doug back in May (?) – there is a review on it – just click on the firearms review “tag” at the bottom of the page – it’s there somewhere – with this XD it makes a grand total of 3 XD’s I’ve shot – I will say this – I wouldn’t hesitate carry any of them – in fact I’m thinking about . . .

From Springfield Armory

Springfield is now making a hammer fired pistol! – CHECK IT OUT HERE – I am going to snoop around and see what I can find on them – looks interesting – I knew Springfield made “stuff” besides 1911’s – I just never paid much attention to it . . . I mean after all – there are only 3 types of guns – 1911’s – S&W revolvers – and the rest!! – LMAO!!

Bottom Line?? The XD series pistols are decent shooters and out there at good prices – my suggestion is get to the range and rent one – give it a test drive – they are smooth little shooters . . .

And some free advice ( due to inflation free advice is currently $78.50 ) – but for you today it is free – if you have bought a firearm and a box of ammo and now you “think” – I’m ready – You’re not – please – if you’re new to this get a basic safety class – practice time – the firearm IS NOT a talisman that will somehow ward off evil – there are some truly evil fucks out there in the world and stopping their particular threat to your life may include poking holes in them until the threat stops . . .

Going to try to sneak out and see what is available – will let you know – probably in an early Saturday morning post – picking up an extra shift this weekend so live posting will be limited . . .

The What & the Why – Backup Gun or Not? A Bug Might Just Save Your Life

by Doug Larson on October 25, 2020

“What are you afraid of?” is a sarcastic question that cops ask sometimes when they encounter a non-sworn civilian – cops are sworn, but they’re still civilians – who carries more than one gun. They apparently think that carrying more than one gun is unnecessary and paranoid. The peace officer that asks that question usually does not carry a backup gun (BUG).

Many in law enforcement, even though they carry a gun daily in case they need it, view guns as just another piece of equipment and haven’t really thought through what might happen if they really need it. If they had, they would realize that guns, even very high quality, expensive, reliable guns, sometimes fail in the middle of a fight. If that happens, having a spare is something that they are really, really going to need.

Although law enforcement officers may have a greater likelihood of needing a gun to defend themselves, a non-sworn civilian occupies the same territory that cops operate in and encounter the same people that cops do. And sometimes those same people prey on the non-sworn civilian, threatening life or serious bodily injury. While needing a gun may be less frequent for the common citizen, it still happens regularly and a primary gun just might not be all that is needed to save that person’s life.
