” CARE AND USE OF HAND TOOLS PLIERS AND SCREWDRIVERS ” 1943 WAR DEPARTMENT TRAINING FILM

Most of this was taught in shop class in high school years ago – that teaching has pretty much gone by the way side – most companies with a dedicated maintenance department had mechanical aptitude testing that you went through to even get to the interview process – companies quit doing that since that is somehow discriminatory – and I will go so far as to say this brought about some very interesting teaching moments on the production floor as you were trying to bring new “mechanics” up to speed . . .

Friday Music : Sound Corporation of America (SCA) Store Backgound Music – Let’s Go Shopping

Had a friend that had one of the playback decks and a pile of tape as well as one of the later radio receivers that picked up the FM sub-carrier – neat stuff – “elevator” music from back in the day – so put your feet up and relax – enjoy your Friday – and tell the slave driver I said it’s perfectly fine – Enjoy!

Just not going to have time to do Fanny Friday this week – but – normalcy might be approaching – LOL!

A Shout Out and a Big Thanks to Covert Instruments customer service people!

Among several interests that I pursue is lock picking – it helps you really develop good motor control skills and patience . . . What really got me going was watching The Lock Picking Lawyer’s YouTube videos ( among others ) – actually tried duplicating keys with a small and micro file set – I don’t recommend THAT for the faint of heart!

And when I saw this video I was all in – take my money/must have/send it to me . . .

When it showed up last Friday? – Oops – it was missing everything but the molding material and the low temp melt metal – Oh My . . .

I sent them an email last Friday – late afternoon – hoping maybe the issue would be resolved by this weekend – play around with it then . . .

And today – Wednesday – the replacement kit was sitting in my mailbox . . . Just WOW!

All I can say is Covert Instruments has some incredible customer service people!

Also picked up the “Echelon Pick Set” – Really nice stuff they sell over there folks. If you are interested in something to do that will help you develop fine micro motor skills – helps a lot with trigger control – consider lock picking – you just never know when that particular skill set may have application somewhere else in your daily routine . . .

Think Shortwave Radio Is Dead? Try this!

Does the little D-808 perform? Almost unbelievable how well it works – my go to road trip radio “kit” has become simplicity itself – the radio and a Kaito reel up style antenna – and that’s it – I lucked up on a basically new old stock Grundig Yacht Boy 400PE – great performer – but – I really did not like using a highly collectable ( read valuable ) radio as a knock around piece – so I grabbed the XHDATA D-808 – throw a piece of bubble wrap around it and toss it in the bag – If it gets smushed? You are out about a $100 bucks, and it’s replaceable – pristine Yacht Boys are getting very hard to find!

And the little wire antenna ( about 20 feet ) is plenty of length – you really don’t need a long wire and when you start getting to 100 feet or so you start getting into issues such as the antenna becoming directional – but this is not a post about that – I am planning out a roughly 70 foot long wire and I will document that in a different post for you folks – but simply put – there is a LOT of stuff on short wave out there, you just have to look for it.

Another neat thing about the XHDATA D-808 is that it’s a good performer on AM broadcast band – as the sun sets the conditions improve and there are a bunch of stations to listen to – during the winter months I listen to the Grand Old Opry on WSM almost every Friday night – dependent on conditions . . .

And if you are listening to shortwave and are not sure who or what you are listening to? You can go here, here, or here and look up the frequency on the first – or enter the frequency on the last two.

Now is the time to practice and learn how to use your shortwave listening skill set – not tomorrow – not next week or next month – NOW! – when you are deep in the middle of shit ?? – It is TOO LATE!

Yes – I know – but one of my jobs is to be your ray of fucking sunshine – thank you very much . . .
