One issue with SWL – Short Wave Listening – in and around metro areas is BCBI – BroadCast Band Interfernce . . .
One of the issues with SDR receivers is by their very design they are broad banded – boat anchors not so much – most have filters in the circuitry and band spread adjustments you can make to work around “noise”
How about some boat anchor porn as long as we are thinking about them? Sure – No Problemo!!

Was it good for YOU?? – now back to the post . . .
Trying to listen through interference is a real challenge at times – to put it mildly. So I am trying two different filters . . .
First one out of the box – literally – is The Flamingo . . .

Had 4 or 5 signals that were above the noise floor yesterday – your looking at about 30 different signals between 5350 and 7600 kHz . . .

This is 6105 kHz at about 0230 UTC in eastern central Nebraska – it is making a difference – time will tell . . .
After 2 or 3 weeks I will trade out for this one and see if there is any difference . . .

Not sure which one I’m listening to – either Radio Cancao Nova or Radio Filadelfia -either one is a good find – they are both 5000 watt stations – without a whole lot of digging ( plus the fact that I do not speak Portuguese ) I’m not sure which . . .
I’ve got a friend who is fluent in Portuguese – might have to drag his happy ass over here and let him interpret – LOL!
Folks – Don’t let people tell you shortwave is dead – There is a ton of stuff out there – a lot of lower power stations – but they are a lot more fun to work – a million years or so ago BBC put out enough power that if conditions were right you could just about listen to them on your toaster – LMAO!
Blog changes on the way after the first of the year – more time available coming to do this – and hopefully get some actual comment stuff going . . .
And yes I will probably be up till close to local sunrise chasing signals . . .
Have Fun! – Run the Gun! – and remember – Fish Heads are Cheap!!
