Got some New “Stuff” in – Reviews Coming!

Short weekend this week – and I’m behind to begin with – will try to get something put together for you folks on these . . .

Two really old ( 1902 patent date ) pattern knives from Marbles – and two from Rough Ryder’s “Black and Blue” series – any one of these four are neat – all 4 together? I don’t know if YOU are emotionally prepared for that – I’ll split them – the 2 Marbles and the 2 Rough Ryders – I will try to get one done this Friday . . .

What’s for Dinner?? – I Made This – Good Stuff Alert!

One of my daily haunts “Paw Paw’s House” – <<< Main Site >>> – is cool stuff – all y’all need to trot your collective happy ass’s over there and check it out when you got time – one of the things he does is post recipes on occasion – one of the things I do is make those recipes on occasion – this one is quick – easy – and GOOD! . . .

“Cajun” Stroganoff is what he calls it – for lack of a better name . . .

Here’s the ingredient list for you . . .

1.5 lbs 80/20 ground beef
Trinity (onion, bell pepper, celery, chopped fine)
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 pint Half and Half
1 can RoTel, drained
1 pound Velveeta cheese
1 pound egg noodles
Salt, pepper, garlic powder

I made a couple of changes :

I used minced garlic ( about a Tablespoon and a half ) and I grabbed 2 cans of mushroom stems and pieces – drained them and threw them in – and added a scant 1/8 cup of Cholula Hot Sauce ( incredible flavor – very little heat ) and of course I didn’t buy any celery at the store because of course I had some – so I cooked it without celery – LMAO!

Cooking it is just about simple enough . . .

In a Dutch oven, sauté the trinity and brown the ground beef. Drain if necessary.  Add salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste.  Add the cream of mushroom soup, the half and half, and the RoTel tomatoes.  Cut the velveeta into cubes and stir it into the mix.

Boil the egg noodles in salted water.  When done, drain and add to the mix. Serve with garlic bread.  Enjoy.

And you can do just about anything to it you want – add cajun seasoning – add a can of drained peas – skip the noodles and serve over rice – and so on . . .

To see the original recipe on his site – <<< GO HERE >>> – Here is a link to all his cooking posts – <<< GO HERE >>> – don’t blame me if your pants start shrinking – blame the washing machine – LOL!

Eisenhower’s Lockheed – Air Force One, Columbine

Something a bit different for you folks . . .

First flight in decades – headed from Marana Regional Airport in Southern Arizona to Bridgwater Virginia for a full restoration. The B25 was along as support crew transport and as a camera platform.

And here’s the behind the scenes to get it in the air and to Virginia. . .

And a look at it a restored Air Force One Connie ( there were several )- talk about an expensive hobby . . .

A good friend worked in the “Silk Purse” program – his “side” of the house provided secure radio and teletype links for high level muckity mucks ( CINCSAC – SECDEF etc.) as they traveled overseas – at the time they were flying EC – 121’s – modified EC-121 Warning Star aircraft – it took an unbelievable amount of “background / behind the scenes” work to stage the chain of aircraft across the Atlantic or Pacific ocean(s) so the multiple secure lines could be maintained – SAC was the Shits – Funding WAS NOT an issue – just saying . . .

Guys Talk Knives: Marble’s Madness

I wonder if a Marble’s knife review might be coming up? . . . Enjoy the video . . .

Go check out SMKW / Marble’s – and if you can’t decide which one to buy? – Buy them both! – just tell your wife you have my permission – LMAO! – Good Luck With That by the way – I had a friend of mine who could not decide which pistol to buy so I told him “Buy Them Both” – and tell your wife I gave you permission to do so – it was a wee bit strange the next time I went over to his house – LOL . . .

German Bull Dirt Buster – Oh So Sweet

Love them – or hate them – which I will address later – Frost Cutlery has kept many brands in the marketplace which otherwise would have gone away – German Bull Brand is amongst those brands . . .

What we have here is a German Bull Dirt Buster – the pic of the box shows the stock number FRGBxxxxxx – Which is Frost / German Bull / German made – Smoky Mountain had this on sale for Labor Day for $29.00 ( $10.00 off the list price ) – so I added it to the order – no disappointment here on arrival . . . ( the knife is still on sale as I am posting this )

At just under 7 inches it not the biggest knife on the block but it makes up for it with fit / finish / and good looks . . .

Sod Buster knives, or the smaller Dirt Buster knives are also called “Farmer’s knives” – the normal pattern is a single blade and no bolsters – Why no bolsters you ask? Metal bolsters add to the cost with more material and more production labor and these were marketed to the worker – a decent blade at a decent price point – horn or wood or bone handles – nothing fancy . . .

Brass liners – good blade centering – brass pins that look real good with the red jigged bone scales – a side note – one of the pins is not quite set “right” – same issue I noticed with the Rough Ryder “Sunfish” – I have had 5 or 6 people handle both the “Dirt Buster” and the “Sunfish” and not a single one picked up on the pins – maybe it is just me . . .

The high polish blade is just like a mirror and nice and sharp right out of the box – I need to pick up a Case knife in this pattern just to compare – as good an excuse to grab another knife as any other reason – Right?

Bottom line? You don’t have one in this pattern in your collection yet because . . . . . .

Let’s take a minute and talk about “Frost” – Frost has produced some very low quality stuff over the years – but – they also produce some very good quality stuff – overall I believe their quality has gotten quite a bit better over time – and they have managed to keep many brands and patterns alive – one of my favorites is Hen & Rooster – the quality and value of those knives are comparable to just about any other production knife out there – Frost is now marketing knives made in Pakistan – and before you start – they are 440 steel and the fit and finish are good – I buy them in bulk – 12 or 24 packs – and give them away for birthdays and Christmas gifts to coworkers – acquaintances – friends etc. As far as Frost’s “Cutlery Corner” thing on cable and internet live streaming – pay attention to what you’re buying is the best advice I can offer to you . . .
