Have Fun! – Run the Gun! – and remember – Fish Heads are Cheap!!
I really am going to have to start using my real camera – damn cellphone just does not work sometimes . . .
Besides playing with the Hogue grips at the Inner10 we got a little range work first – started my blushing bride cold with transitions ( yeah I know – but she is starting to realize that first / second / third shot has to be there ) – as close to one second splits as she could get them . . .

The double taps she did great on – second shot was fired when she had a sight/target picture and did not worry about in the box -scoring rings etc. – used a silhouette target – simply acquire the sight/target picture and send it – she is starting to realize the less she thinks about all the “stuff” ( grip – perfect sight alignment – holding her tongue just right – the rotation of the earth and so on . . . ) other than send the next one down the line the better she does – some of her splits were less than a second – she’s getting there . . .

Now let me ask YOU – Have you been to the range this week?? If YOU could not make the range – did YOU practice dry firing? Draw and presentation and re-holstering??
There are a lot of manipulation techniques YOU can practice without going to the range – REMEMBER to be borderline OCD about safety – NO live ammo in the same room!! Be safe out there -OK??

My blushing bride and I went to the Inner10 and tried the Mono Grips and the Tamer Grips side by side – we each fired 10 rounds with each at 5 yards – she shot 130 grain standard pressure and I shot 158 grain standard pressure – rate of fire was right at 1 round per second – below are the little darlings ready for bath time after their outing . . .
Oh you dirty little guns . . .

She did good withe Mono Grips . . .

Tamer Grips – not so good . . .

My run at it with the Mono Grips – that’s two rounds at the lower left corner of the center red square . . .

And here I go with the Tamer Grips . . .

The Mono Grips are a little longer than the Tamer Grips which really helped with control and recoil recovery – even though the Tamer Grips did help a little with recoil – the issue is the palm swell is just a little too much . . .

The palm swell as well as the overall hump shape on the back of the Tamer Grips ( see top pic ) makes for a rather different feel – like you are just not getting a “secure” purchase on the Tamer Grip.
When you add it all up – the texturing on the Mono Grips is more aggressive than on the Tamer Grips – then add to the mix the extra 3/4 of an inch or so length of the Mono Grip with the smaller palm swell and the somewhat straighter “back” the Mono Grips gets the Kewpie Doll today . . .

If you are looking to replace your J Frame grips with something besides factory style grips these offerings from Hogue just might be what you’re looking for . . .
If recoil is an issue – and for some folks it is quite an issue – then go with the Tamer Grips by all means – while not significant there is an amount of recoil reduction with them. But realize they do have a learning curve with them – yes they “feel” that much different. I would recommend practicing with them until they feel right to you – and then practice some more!! ( there you go with that P word again!! ) – To me the Tamer Grips feel “strange” compared to my beloved Ergo Grips – and the Mono Grips have a much more “conventional” feel – they feel more “full” sized .
And a good time was had by all – shooting is just like fishing – my worst day fishing just beats the tar out of my best day working . . .

I had bought a TRIPLE-O Knife from LEO COMBAT to try – LOVE IT!! – (review here ) and Bob tossed in a pack of hammer shrouds for the S&W 637 to try – so I dug out the 637 and put one on it and stuck it in a pocket holster – dropped it in my pocket and started carrying it . . .
You can check out the initial post on the hammer shrouds HERE . .

And ready to go into the holster and then into my pocket for the rigorous testing phase!

Now I admit that trying all this stuff out is difficult and demanding – I truly strive to give the best opinions on “stuff” – but sometimes it is tough – NOT this time – I put the hammer shroud on it – in the holster – in my pocket – carried it just like I would a 642 . . .
And here we are – it’s still on the 637 – still in my pocket – still doing the job – Cool Stuff!
Let’s jump right on it – shall we??
. . . absolute dead simple solution – totally transparent/you don’t even notice it – stays put – allows pocket carry of the S&W 637 WITHOUT being concerned about drawing it out of your pocket – no trying to position your thumb over the hammer to prevent snags – no need to remove or manipulate the shroud prior to firing – it stays in place but comes off with trigger pull . . .
Folks – if you have a 637 and wish to pocket carry without the “hammer hassle” go to LEOCOMBAT.COM – scroll down and watch the video – these shrouds work and work well – an elegantly simple solution that “fixes” the hammer snag issue with a 637 . . .
Simply put – If you own a S&w 637 – and pocket carry it / or want to – why don’t you own a hammer shroud from LEOCOMBAT.COM ??
