Kershaw Cinder – A Key Chain “Pub Knife”

Pub Knife? What the Hell is a “Pub Knife”?

Simply put – think cheese / sausage slicer with a bottle opener – a true emergency response knife – LOL! Kershaw actually markets a knife called “Pub” – as well as one named “Shuffle” – but today we are looking the Cinder – so here we go . . .

Fit and finish? – What you would expect from Kershaw – Real Nice . . .

I love the frame cut – the “fancy” liner lock actually becomes an attractive design element with the knife open – the liner lock is real positive in engagement . . .

Remember folks – those are 1 inch squares – this knife is small . . .

Believe it or not you can get a decent grip on it!

Functionality?? We are going to find out how good all 3 “Pub” knives do in actual use and compare them to each other . . .

Just around the corner – the Head To Head competition . . .

Just to show you how much I care about all y’all – I have cheese / sausage / crackers and beer – gotta check the the opener function! – the sacrifices that I willingly make for you folks . . .

And as far as the “Cinder” goes – I am thinking about picking up a dozen or so for Christmas gifts this year – and if you are one of the Christmas gift folks out there on my list – forget I just said that . . .

Who said anything about Christmas? Certainly not me!

What’s in YOUR pocket?

Connie Hamzy, Famed Rock Groupie, Dead at 66

From Rockclassica.com . . .

“Hamzy had her first groupie experience when she was 15 years old, after her mother dropped her off at a Steppenwolf concert.

“She didn’t like to deal with parking. She didn’t like to deal with traffic. So, she’d take me out to the fairground early in the afternoon before the traffic got bad,” Hamzy explained to Little Rock, Ark. TV station KTHV. “We’d go out there and then we’d wander around the backstage area, and one thing would lead to another.”

Two years later, Hamzy was immortalized in the lyrics to Grand Funk Railroad’s 1973 hit “We’re an American Band.”

The song’s opening lines went: “Out on the road for forty days / Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze / Sweet, sweet Connie, doin’ her act / She had the whole show and that’s a natural fact.”

The band’s manager had reportedly alerted Hamzy of the line, but she initially didn’t believe it. A few months later, she happened to hear the song on the radio.”

She was quite active on conservative forums at one time – Free Republic and others . . .

So she has gone to the ultimate concert??

For several years now I have been trying to get a Thompson Contender style pistol built in .50 BMG – every time I talk to machinists about this they won’t do it – this however looks interesting and I might be able to convince someone to do it . . .

I want one . . .

Morakniv Bushcraft

In case you don’t know – here’s a little history from Morakniv / Sweden’s Website – go and read the whole thing for yourself – pretty interesting history . . .

A teaser from their site . . .

“There is a long tradition of knife making in Mora. We have been creating sharp knives for the rest of the world for more than 400 years. The seed of what would become one of the world’s most popular knife manufacturers was sown as early as 1891 when Frost-Erik Erson returned to the village of Östnor in Mora after four years of work as a lumberjack in North America. In the same year, he founded a timber sledge factory that manufactured sledges, trolleys, and knives for the workshop’s internal use. At that time, it was important to manage resources and to utilize the remaining material from the production was more or less taken for granted. It would later prove to be a successful business concept.”

*************

The company has quite a history – their knives are quite well thought of world wide – this particular one is an Amazon pick up – what can I say?? It caught my eye – and most of you folks know I can resist anything but temptation – LOL!

This one comes in a blister pack . . .

A couple of pics of the back of the package . . .

One interesting thing about the packaging – just peel the cardboard back around the edges and it comes apart – sometimes blister packs are a real “challenge” ( see – I can be nice – I didn’t say blister packs are a rotten son of a bitch! ) to get the product out of!

One really cool feature – the holes on the the sheath and belt clips will clip on the “buttons” on coveralls so you can hang it directly on your clothing – cool stuff . . .

The sheath holds the firestarter so you don’t lose track of it . . .

And the diamond grit sharpening stone is glued to the sheath so you can hold the sheath not the stone while sharpening . . .

The firestarter has a hole for a lanyard . . .

The spine of the blade is a sharp 90 degree corner made to work with the firestarter – so you can throw sparks into tinder easily . . .

The blade is Sandvik stainless steel – the ergonomics of it? – good texture and grip – the blade is not so long that it is cumbersome – overall easy to handle knife . . .

Bottom Line – Are they any good??

Yes they are – the Swedish Armed Forces use them – that information is here . . . – Morakniv is an incredible value – I paid $52.00 and change for this one. They are not flashy tree chopping “Rambo” style knives – they are just what you need and nothing more – gonna clear brush? / get a machete – chop a tree down? / get an ax – clear land? / get a bulldozer . . .

Folks – I am not going into a 5000 word essay on “survival” gear here – let me just say YOUR survival kit is YOUR business – everything YOU pack into it takes up space and adds weight – choose your equipment wisely – for me? – this knife is in my GO BAG . . .

I usually end knife reviews with “What’s in your pocket?” – this time? – What’s in YOUR GO BAG?

I Found This for You!

While you are watching this – when you see the water tower after you are on the island – the house we rent is about 1/2 block on the left on Cadillac Ave – real quiet neighborhood . . .

My super duper camera is supposed to be able to take movies like this – I have had it for several years and I can pretty much take pictures with it and not screw them up too much – LMAO!

If you want a hard core case of sticker shock – here’s a link to this guys site . . .

The sea lab he talks about in the video was an active radar installation until 1970 ( upgraded to SAGE and reactivated in 1973 through 1980 ) If you want to wander into a rabbit hole for several months – stumble through what you can dig up on SAGE on the internet and try to wrap your head around it – it is hard to believe putting it together with today’s technology let alone what was available at the time.

We are teetering on the edge of dumping this humble abode – it’s actually hard to believe the amount people are offering – grab a little piece of dirt in Alabama – and go hide out in the woods somewhere. Wouldn’t do it on the island per se – we can pick up 10 acres in northwest Alabama for 20k – a small lot on Dauphin Island is 100k plus . . .
