In my Blackhawk post I said there is some difference’s in profiles between the Ruger and what everyone thinks of as a “cowboy” gun but you don’t notice it unless they are side by side – Well here we go – Uberti on top – Ruger on the bottom . . .
The Ruger has a more “squared off” look to it –
Front of the frames and sight profiles . . .

The trigger guard differences – and the rear of the frames – not really eye catching but there are differences . . .

The Uberti is in 32-20 . . .
The Ruger has an almost service revolver look to it when it’s next to the Uberti – The Uberti has an almost art deco look to it when it’s next to the Ruger – Kinda neat if you think about it – by themselves you’re like – Ok, it’s a cowboy gun . . . But when you put them up next to one another they are different – and neither one comes off as better or worse but the certainly are “different” from one another . . .
And they are both Great Shooters – the Ruger does a great job with recoil – points good . . .
The Uberti is a real sweetheart in 32-20 – the cowboy action loads that are out there in 32-20 are light loads because there are some real old guns out there that are still being shot today – and they are still being made and sold today – Classic Firearms has them and there are always listings for 32-20’s on GUN BROKER – All I can say is “Cowboy Up!”

I realize a bunch of folks out here are SAA purists – if the hammer don’t click 4 times – if it doesn’t have a hammer mounted firing – and so on . . . But the little darling caught my eye so I figured Why Not!
The case is not the greatest but it beats a cardboard box . . .
Not really a traditional looking piece – you won’t mistake for a Single Action Army but good looking in its own way – and it’s a convertible – comes with a 9mm cylinder and a 38/357 cylinder which is really neat . . .
Weighs in at 2 lbs 9.6 ounces – there is practically no recoil with 115 grain 9mm or 148 grain 38 special wadcutters – Hell even 158 grain 357 loads are PLEASANT to shoot!!
Ruger started building this line in 1955 and have several different models – this is the Blackhawk – then there’s Redhawk and Super Redhawk – and Super Blackhawk and maybe one or three others I’m forgetting – Cut me a little slack folks – I’m not a Ruger aficionado and my memory is not perfect . . . Now what were we talking about??
The overall package comes across pretty well – the front sight really fools you visually into thinking it would be nose heavy but it balances good – my only thought is I would like a pinned sight blade so it could be swapped for your preference – personally I would prefer just a bit narrower but it works as we will see here in a bit . . .
The rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation – you need to get out the real screwdriver set when you go to the range – I had to raise the rear sight on this one just shy of a complete turn on the screw to bring the Point Of Impact ( POI ) up to Point Of Aim ( POA ) – once I settle on a particular load – bullet weight/velocity combination – then I will fine tune the rear sights . . .
For you folks that are Single Action Army “Purists” you may want to just scroll down through the next several pics – I accept no blame for any emotional trauma or cases of the vapors that occur – just saying . . .

In another break from the S.A.A. “tradition” there is no hammer mounted firing pin, which for a lot of people is sacrilege – I’m talking right in the same row of seats as cussing the Pope!! – It doesn’t bother me as the transfer bar system allows safe carry with 6 rounds instead of 5 . . .

There is NO pull the hammer back to the loading notch to free wheel the cylinder – just open the loading gate and the cylinder stop pawl just magically drops out of the way !! It is my understanding that it took years of intense negotiations between the “Pew Pew Fairies” union and the “Magical Leprechauns” union and the Sturm Ruger Company before the “Pew Pew Fairies” would allow the “Magical Leprechauns” to set up shop and be allowed to pull the cylinder stop pawl out of the way every time the loading gate is opened . . .
The grips just don’t do a thing for me . . . The texture and feel is great but the eye appeal is just not there – if your going to crawl through the wilds in search of Bambi – sure they work – but no eye appeal , , ,
I believe that they will look good on it – and yes if I go crawling through the weeds and the woods I will switch back to the factory grips . . .
I had quite a time with it printing low . . .
Just kept fiddling with the sights and the point of impact kept creeping up . . .
Shot 115 grain 9mm – 148 grain wadcutters and 125 grain JHP +p – 158 grain LSWC gas checked +p in 38 special and 158 grain JHP in 357 – a real assortment of stuff . . .
I hope to get some more time with it this weekend and dial it in with the 158 grain 357 magnum rounds and then see where the rest of it prints . . .
When I get time to do that I will post it for you as well as a detailed review with some side by side pics with the Uberti Single Action Army stuff – you don’t realize how different the Ruger is until you see them side by side . . .
